We are excited to announce that we are now distributing beers by Jack’s Abby out of Framingham, Mass. Jack’s Abby brews lagers, and only lagers. Born in the high alps of Bavaria over 200 years ago, lagers became a beloved brew all across Europe. Lagers feature a distinctive smoothness and fullness that no other beer has and we think everyone deserves.
Founded in 2011 by three brothers, Jack, Eric, and Sam Hendler, Jack’s Abby has become a mainstay of the craft brewing scene in the Northeast and nationwide.
Jack’s Abby mission is to create truly distinctive lagers featuring locally grown ingredients, traditional German brewing standards, and American innovation.
Currently, National will be offering their House Lager and Hoponius Union, an India Pale Lager. House Lager pulls inspiration from the numerous country lagers, or landbiers, found in Franconia. It’s sweet and golden with a full malty body that comes from using a traditional German malt variety. Hoponious Union IPL is like a traditional IPA but with a twist – it’s fermented cold and aged for extended periods. A blend of classic American hops creates a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma. A dry finish accentuates the pleasant bitterness and hop profile.
On November 11th, Jack’s Abby will be showcasing 32 of their beers at Novare Res Bier Café in Portland. This will be the ultimate opportunity to try Jack’s Abby full range of amazing lagers. Hope to see you there!
Winter is coming and most of our fall beers are almost gone. As we brace for another Maine winter, we have a handful of new seasonal brews coming in that will make the chilly nights a little warmer.
New this winter from Harpoon is their UFO Winter Blonde; hazy and golden in color, this unfiltered vanilla cold brew ale balances a subtle vanilla sweetness with a hint of cold brew coffee.
10 Barrel Brewing is our newest brand from the west coast and their winter offering is Pray for Snow. This delicately balanced strong ale starts with dark copper color mixed with slight reddish hues and a light tan head. Big malty aroma with a Munich character give way to a slight caramel and toffee mixed with spicy noble hop aroma, all wrapped together with a medium-bodied mouth feel. German malt flavor profile with slight roasty notes gives Pray for Snow a subtle toffee sweetness balanced with spicy hop bitterness and slight alcohol warming.
From Maine, we have Geaghan Brother's Penobscot Icebreaker. The Icebreaker is a classic winter spice ale made with pumpkin, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, molasses, and boasting a high enough alcohol content to help warm you on any winter day.
Last but not least, we have Jack's Abby Red Tape Amber Lager. Red Tape has a full malty flavor typical of Bavarian dark lagers. It's then cold fermented in the 40s and lagered at freezing, a traditional spunding process allowing for 100% natural carbonation.
So if you prefer a blonde, a dark ale, a winter spice ale or an amber lager, we have got you covered on all bases this winter. If you want to check out our full line of winter beer options, check them out here. They go quick, so act now before they're gone!
