NDI’s Progess on 'Going Green'
National Distributors has initiated a plan to reduce our carbon footprint in the community and move toward becoming more of a ‘green’ company.
We began in April of this year, at the suggestion of our president, Jeff Kane. We started by asking our Operations Manager, Dave Nelson, to interview suppliers who carry eco friendly cleaning products for offices and warehouses.
In May, Dave Nelson and Carmine Castaldo, VP Sales met with a couple of organizations that focus on companies like ours who are seeking to ‘go green’. One of the companies, Comfort Systems, would landscape our carbon footprint and show us ways that we, as a company, could reduce our impact in our community. We are planning to follow up with them early in 2009.
Jeff Kane and Carmine Castaldo toured the Eco Maine facility in Portland. We discussed our goal to be more of a green company with Missi Labbe. Missi offered to help us by coming to NDI to talk with our people about a culture change regarding recycling, etc.
Internally, we have placed a dozen beverage recycle bins throughout the office and warehouse to capture and recycle our employee’s beverage containers. We have also initiated an employee contest to come up with a name or slogan for NDI’s green effort.
Finally, we are in the process of starting a ‘Green Committee’ to identify areas in which we can have a positive effect on our green goal.
As we move forward in our quest, more information will follow.
